Disenfranchisement
Disenfranchisement in Election Law
The revocation of the right of suffrage (the right to vote) of a person or group of people, or through practices that prevent a person from exercising his or her right to vote. Disfranchisement can be explicit, for example as a result of legal provisions, or implicit, through discriminatory or prohibitive requirements placed on voters for registration or polling.
