- Volumes: 3 vols.
- Publisher: Paris: Chez Leclerc, Libraire
- Year of Publication: 1763
About the Author: Honoré Lacombe de Prézel (1725-c. 1793)
In the words of the Tarlton Law Library (University of Texas School of Law):
“Brother of the better known Jacques Lacombe de Prézel (1724-1801), Honoré Lacombe de Prézel was a lawyer and author. Title page, Dictionnaire portatif, 1763 Taking advantage of the eighteenth-century French passion for dictionaries, the author published many other dictionaries including Dictionnaire des portraits historiques, anecdotiques et traits remarquables des hommes illustres (1768) and Dictionnaire iconologique, ou Introduction à la connaissance des peintures, médailles, estampes, etc. (1779).
Dictionnaire portatif was designed, as the title indicates, as a small portable dictionary. There is no additional material – simply three volumes of alphabetically arranged entries on law. The pocket-sized volumes were reduced versions of his popular Dictionnaire de jurisprudence. Contemporary luminaries suggested that his work was more notable for quantity than quality.”
