Cure And Maintenance
Summary of Cure And Maintenance
An ancient principle of maritime law that holds a vessel owner responsible to care for sick and injured seamen in his employ. The principle can be traced back to the sea codes of the Middle Ages and was affirmed in American law in 1823 in the case of Harden vs. Gordon. The rules covering compensation for job-related sickness and injury were formalized in the Jones Act of 1920.
