Community Service

Community Service, in the penal systems of the United States and the United Kingdom, unpaid work for the community performed by a convicted person by court order as an alternative to prison. Examples of community service include helping children, the elderly, or the disabled. The term may also refer more generally to any volunteer work done in the service of one’s community, such as social work, environmental cleanup, or mentoring. (1)
