Commodity Price Index

Commodity Price Index

Summary of Commodity Price Index

An index of prices for a stipulated list of commodities. Prices may be on a spot or futures basis. Customarily, major commodities are traded on exchanges (although there are some exceptions), and price fluctuations can be monitored accordingly. The U.S. Department of Labor maintains an index of twenty-two basic commodities as a component of the Wholesale Price Index.
