Comité Maritime International Outline

The CMI is a non-governmental organisation. Its object is to promote the unification of maritime and commercial law, and of maritime customs and usages. The CMI consists of national maritime associations from various countries. Only one association from each country is allowed to represent the country. The administrative mechanism of the CMI consists of the President, the Assembly and the Executive Council. The headquarters of the CMI are in Antwerp, Belgium. The CMI Rules for Electronic Bills of Lading were adopted in 1990 and are presently the major international attempt to regulate electronic bills of lading.(1)
