Summary of Codetermination

The corporate management process employed in some countries whereby labor representatives sit on the company's board of directors. This practice arose in Germany following World War I, gaining wide acceptance in that country following World War II. Worker participation, or Mitbestimmung, is mandatory in most German firms having 500 or more employees. Acceptance has grown in France and several other countries to a lesser extent.
