Certification of Origin Form A in International Trade

Meaning of Certification of Origin Form A, according to the Dictionary of International Trade (Global Negotiator): This certificate is a type of Certificate of Origin that allows imports from the countries included in the GSP (General System of Preferences) – developing countries – to qualify for the elimination or reduction of tariffs as this system gives preferential treatment. This Certificate is a document designed and adopted at the multilateral level by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), used for the developing countries whose objective is certify the origin status of the products exported to industrialized countries, to received preferential treatment in the GSP. The Certificate of Origin Form A is presented in the import customs but must issued within a maximum period of ten months from its issuance by a competent institution (chamber of commerce, consular office) in the country of origin, i.e the country from which the product is manufactured and exported. In the import customs clearance is not necessary to present the Certificate of Origin, because the Certificate of Origin Form A, acts as both, declaring the preferential origin of the product.
