Capital

Capital

Summary of Capital

Goods employed in the pursuit of commercial profit. Capital is one of the traditional factors of production, along with land and labor; some neofactor theorists also include entrepreneurship as a fourth factor, although traditional thought would regard entrepreneurial efforts as a form of labor. In the formal sense, capital consists of real capital, such as building machinery and tools, used to produce other goods, as contrasted with finance capital, which is the money or credit used to acquire such capital goods.

Capital in Constitutional Law

From the Comparative Constitutions Project: When we refer to the capital, we are refering to where most of the government business takes place. For example, in the Dutch constitution, Amsterdam is specified as the capital and The Hague is specifed as the seat of government, but all the goverment activity takes place at The Hague, where only the coronation of new kings and queens takes place in Amsterdam. Therefore, since most of the government acitivity takes place in The Hague, it would be the capital in this case, not the named capital of Amsterdam.
