Summary of Big Eight
The eight currencies in which the preponderance of the world's trade is transacted: U.S. dollar, French franc, pound sterling, Swiss franc, Deutschmark, Canadian dollar, Japanese yen, and Italian lira. The seven non-U.S. currencies cited, in the aggregate, routinely account for 90 percent of all foreign exchange transactions in New York.
