All Water Service

All Water Service

Summary of All Water Service

A service provided by a steamship company whereby the goods are transported from the origin port to the destination port entirely by ship, without intervening overland carriage. For example, an all water shipment from Yokohama to New York would travel entirely by sea, usually through the Panama Canal. This type of service is contrasted with mini-landbridge service, under which the goods might travel by sea from Yokohama to Los Angeles and then overland by rail to New York. In both instances, the steamship operator would provide a Yokohama-New York bill of lading for the shipment and arrange for overland transportation, if necessary, at his expense. See LANDBRIDGE.
