Summary of Admission Temporaire

The temporary duty free admission of otherwise dutiable merchandise, usually for the purpose of processing into goods for export. The most common vehicles for avoiding duties on such temporary imports are: (1) importation under bond the importer posts a bond with customs to cover duties in the event the goods are not re-exported within a prescribed period; and (2) drawback duties are paid at time of importation and recovered from the customs authorities when the final product is exported. Regulations governing importations under bond and drawback recoveries vary from nation to nation.
