Acquis
Acquis
A French term meaning ‘that which has been acquired’ and used in relation to
European Union law, most notably in the form of the acquis communautaire , to signify
the entire body of European laws. The term has also been used with reference to the
Schengen process concerning the abolition of border controls between Member States of
the European Union. The entirety of the agreements and administrative acts related to
this process are collectively referred to as the Schengen acquis : see Offi cial Journal
2000/L 239 .[1]
