Summary of Section 204

A provision of the Agricultural Act of 1956 authorizing the president to negotiate bilateral agreements to limit exports to the United States of “any agricultural commodity or product manufactured therefrom or textiles or textile products.”The president is also empowered to take steps to limit exports to the United States of such products and to issue regulations to implement any bilateral arrangements concluded. U.S. participation in the Multifiber Arrangement (read this and related legal terms for further details) is a product of Section 204 authority.
