Red Clause

Red Clause

Summary of Red Clause

A special provision that may appear in a Letter Of Credit (read this and related legal terms for further details) that permits the beneficiary to draw advances before presentation of the documents stipulated in the credit. The amount of the advances and the circumstances under which they may be drawn are stipulated in the credit. The term derives its name from the red ink once used to highlight the clause.
